“Badger Print ticks all the boxes on price, service, meeting deadlines and print quality.” – Mark Littleford, Managing Director of TFM

THE CHALLENGE

TFM Farm & Country Superstore has five Midlands-based stores and is one of the largest farm and country suppliers in the UK. With more than 35 years' experience in the supply of equipment and materials, it sells thousands of products to a diverse customer base.

The TFM range, includes products for farming, outdoor, building, electrical, plumbing, fencing, and drainage. Plus, power tools, hand tools, spanners, livestock supplies, animal husbandry, feed, seed, gardening, landscaping, clothing – the list is endless.

Managing Director, Mark Littleford, found that customers were regularly surprised by TFM’s extensive product range, so he decided to embark on the huge task of producing a comprehensive printed guide that would highlight their wide offering.

Previously, the company had used individual leaflets for some of the products, but the new guide was developed to give customers a single point of reference they could take away with them and keep for longer.

The challenge was, bringing so many different products together to form an easy to follow guide in a format that would withstand heavy misuse and wouldn’t date quickly.

Whether sliding around in a tractor or being taken out on a construction site, TFM wanted the product guide to function well and look good for as long as possible.

THE SOLUTION

TFM and Badger Print worked together to develop a robust specification, starting with the handy, practical A5 landscape size.

PUR binding, ideal for more than 100 pages, gives a superior spine strength and look, so was the obvious binding option for the guide.

The weight of the paper was critical and 130gsm for the inside pages worked well as part of a large brochure. Gloss paper was chosen for its durability and to give the product photographs more punch, with its wider colour range and sharper resolution.

The design process was lengthy, due to the sheer scale of the project. Products had to be extracted from the product leaflet and website, and presented in an interesting, uniform format under the TFM brand.

THE RESULTS

The TFM product guide is receiving positive feedback from customers. Hard copies are being handed out in-store, and the digital version has been sent out with invoices and is also due to be uploaded onto the website.

As the first version, Mark is already busy making notes on how to improve future revisions and confirms that the project has been a huge success.

About working with Badger Print, he comments: “They are very easy to deal with and they completely understand us – the pressure we’re under, the seasonality and the need for flexibility.”

“Badger Print ticks all the boxes on price, service, meeting deadlines and print quality.”
