Our paper sizes are based on the ISO216 international paper size standard. This standard is based on each size being half of the size of the previous one, when folded parallel to the shorter lengths. This paper size guide will give you all the information you need on popular paper sizes from the UK and Europe.

“A” paper sizes

The most typical sizes for finished printed documents are A3, A4, A5 an A6. Cutting an A4 in half, will create two A5 sheets, and so forth. Any size of brochure can be made using paper from the next larger size, for example A3 sheets are folded to make A4 brochures.

“B” paper sizes

“B” size paper is the geometric mean of the A series sheets. For example, B1 is between A0
and A1 in size. While the B series is less common in finished print products, printers use
these sizes to achieve maximum economy when planning jobs up on a sheet.

“C” paper sizes

“C” sized paper is most commonly used for envelopes, although there are some other uses. The area of C series paper is the geometric mean of the areas of the A and B series paper of the same number. For example, C4 has a bigger area than A4, but smaller area than B4. Therefore an A4 piece of paper will fit into a C4 envelope and so forth.

Untrimmed paper sizes

The dimensions of all “RAW sized” paper are defined by the ISO217 international paper sizstandard. The format consists of the SRA series amongst others. SRA stands for “Supplementary Raw Format A”. The untrimmed paper is usually used in commercial printing and as it is slightly larger than the A series format. This allows the ink to bleed to the edge of the paper, before being cut to match the A format aswell as being extremely useful when printing high numbers of smaller items on a sheet before trimming.
