Freshen up your company image

For your business to stay ahead, you need to keep its branding up-to-date. By this we don’t mean you need a new logo every 12 months, there many other ways to freshen up your image.

Logos are often considered the image of a product or service and thought of as the centre of all branding activity.

Some are no longer the right image for a company that has evolved, some are just basically a bit tired and out of date.

Redesigning a logo can be just as hard as creating a new one. Some questions you may ask yourself are: How much do you want to change it? What elements should be kept? And will the redesign still be recognisable as your brand?

Once you go through your list of questions and figure out what’s necessary, here are five ideas you can use to spruce up your logo design:

1. Strip it down – as more minimalistic design works better today, get rid of the excess so that your audience isn’t confused about what’s going on. If your current logo design has a lot of elements, try to figure out which ones are surplus.

2. Change the font – another simple fix is the font. Think about who you want to reach and tweak it accordingly. Maybe you want to appeal to a younger audience, so a more modern look would be a sans-serif font in lowercase.

3. Change the colours – We tend to relate colours to certain emotions and feelings so changing the colours on your logo can create either a subtle or dramatic change, depending on what it is you want to do.

4. Project personality – sometimes a logo can be too stripped back and lack personality or meaning. If you’re logo is a little traditional or even boring, you may want to apply more of a theme to it that’s central to the company or what the product does.

5. Out with the old and in with the new – make sure your new branding is consistent with everything you do. By this we mean, is your corporate logo the same on your letterheads as it is on other printed goods. You’d be surprised how many companies have old logos on items such as invoices just because they had them printed years ago and still have some left over. From a customer’s point of view, your brand needs to be consistent, for what it’s worth, you’re better off getting rid of any items that have out of date design on them as this will only weaken your brand.
